Reducing Stigma Through Trauma- and Violence-Informed Care

Trauma- and Violence-Informed Care (TVIC) principles are essential to delivering services that address the impacts of stigma, structural violence and trauma. This workshop will prepare front-line service providers who work in the areas of sexuality and substance use to adapt their work to be trauma- and violence-informed, and to assess their programs and teams using a validated TVIC organizational assessment tool.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have:

  • Increased knowledge of the various forms of stigma and the factors that contribute to stigma related to sexuality, substance use and STBBIs, including personal values and beliefs as well as organizational policies and practices;
  • Increased knowledge of the principles of TVIC and enhanced skills in applying this approach to reduce stigma during discussions related to sexuality, substance use and STBBIs;
  • Enhanced awareness of TVIC policies and practices that can be used to reduce stigma at the organizational level

IDEAL FOR: Service providers who work in all sectors where substance use and sexuality are relevant, including health care, social work, education, newcomer serving organizations, justice, and students in the social sciences, humanities and related human service fields.

CERTIFICATION: Participants will receive a certificate of completion worth 6.0 Hrs. that can be applied to continuing competency programs for various professional regulating bodies.
