SERC offers affirming and supportive programming for Two-Spirit, Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and Aromantic (2STLGBQIA+) individuals, families, and friends in Brandon and Western Manitoba.
SERC Brandon’s 2STLGBQIA+ Program supports our community by:
- Proving 2STLGBQIA+ awareness & support education, training, consultation and outreach
- Running monthly all-ages social and peer support groups for those in the 2STLGBQIA+ community
- Hosting and curating a 2STLGBQIA+ resource library
- Providing referrals for those looking for further learning or connections
- Supporting 2STLGBQIA+ communities by tabling at events
You may have noticed that we updated the acronym from 2STLGBQ+ to 2STLGBQIA+. Over the last year (2024), we’ve been discussing our acronym use at SERC. During this time, we created a working group, conducted a staff survey that was reviewed by our leadership team, spoke to local community members, and examined what our partner agencies were doing nationally. After compiling these findings, the leadership team and the staff working group chose to move forward with changing the acronym

- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity & expression
- Identifying and interrupting homophobia, biphobia, lesbophobia, transphobia, heterosexism, and cissexism
- Intersectionality & systems of oppression
- Supporting & advocating for 2STLGBQIA+ individuals, families, and communities
