Teaching Sexuality: Facilitation Skills for Teachers and Youth Service Providers – SUMMER INSTITUTE

This specialized, two-day training event will prepare service providers who work directly with youth, and teachers responsible for human sexuality curricular learning outcomes, to integrate comprehensive sexuality education lessons and activities into their programs or classrooms. Drawing from the provincial curriculum and updated local and national sexuality education resources, this training will provide tools, resources and practice in delivering comprehensive sexuality education with youth ages 12 and up.

  • Diversity in Human Sexuality: Sex, Gender and Sexual Orientation
  • Puberty and Sexual Development
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
  • MB Provincial Curriculum Overview, Resources and Guides
  • Educational Approaches to STIs, Birth Control, Safer Sexual Practices
  • Activities and Games for Teaching and Learning
  • Adolescent Identity Development and Healthy Sexuality
  • Social Media, Porn and Media Literacy
  • New Resources and Local Referrals

IDEAL FOR: Service providers who work with youth ages 12 and up in community or school settings, Grade 7, 9, and 10 teachers who are responsible for the Human Sexuality components of the MB curriculum, guidance counsellors, school social workers and other school staff, public health nurses who work in schools, program planners/developers interested in sexuality education for youth and students in the social sciences, humanities and related human service fields.

CERTIFICATION: Participants will receive a certificate of completion worth 12.0 Hrs. that can be applied to continuing competency programs for various professional regulating bodies.

COST:  $100.00 for both days. SERC is committed to supporting sexuality education for students. As such, the fee for this training institute is subsidized to promote accessibility and includes snacks, coffee/tea, and lunches. Street parking is available.
