This workshop covers the basics of the additional barriers that those labeled with intellectual, cognitive, and developmental disabilities face in accessing their sexual and reproductive health rights. We will explore societal and personal biases that create these barriers through a dissection of what it means to “protect” people who are “vulnerable”. Participants in this workshop will leave with tools to start proactive sexual health conversations in their programming as well as tools to formulate a positive reaction when the topic of sexuality comes up unexpectedly.
This session is part of the Ongoing Learning Hub. The Hub offers comprehensive full-day training opportunities, Webinars, and lunch-and-learn-style events to support service providers in Manitoba. Each draws on expertise, up-to-date research, evidence-based approaches, and local resources to enhance knowledge, skills, and awareness of sexuality issues. Launched in 2024, SERC offers training online on our Learning Management System at your own pace. New courses will be added each year.
